The cause of the Galle Ship Wreck dive site is still unconfirmed and left for the diver’s imagination as the area has been filled in during the development of the harbour. However, it is believed that the site was either a shipwreck or possibly a place where a cannon had been abandoned, and then has been cut making the remaining pieces of the wreck scatter over the sandy bottom. This means that this wreck is not intact and easy to explore, but is still worth visiting.
Marine life at this site includes corals, sponges, numerous species of reef fish including snappers, angelfish, porcupine fish and moray eels.
